So in summary, I'd suggest a vastly polar opposite corporate culture for RootsMagic than for Ancestry.

They also have companion software intended for that purpose. This sounds extremely promising/interesting.

I'm still hooked on FamilyTreeMaker's ability to print a large chart as a pdf (eg 10 feet on 36" paper) that I can take to my local print shop.Īnd I need to explore their ability to build a book based on your family tree. However, I haven't fully explored their printing yet.

When you start it up on your PC there is a popup with news items and possible software updates to download. It can also import many other formats, such as FTM directly. Perhaps I'm old school, but having something to read helps you understand what it can do).Ĭompare trees seems powerful if you have multiple versions of your tree, or are comparing your tree to someone elses.

Yes its coming soon (in fall 2016, I think) I'm expecting to transition from FamilyTreeMaker to RootsMagic when RootsMagic supports syncing with Ancestry. While its GUI Interface isn't as slick as Ancestry browser based GUI, its functionality as a PC based program far exceeds what I can get our of Ancestry online. In general I like what I see with RootsMagic, but I still consider myself a novice with it. An item that has never been opened or removed from the manufacturer's sealing (if applicable). So I now have all 3: Ancestry Online, FamilyTreeMaker on my PC and RootsMagic on my PC. RootsMagic 7 Family Tree Genealogy Software Condition: Brand New Item location : Provo, Utah, United States Last seen price: 25.00. So when Ancestry announced that it would stop supporting FamilyTreeMaker, RootsMagic announced a special deal to allow customers to move to RootsMagic. Modern genealogy software has tons of useful features for everyone, from the beginner to the seasoned professional. However my long term experience with Ancestry is not positive. It's adequate as a reference but it wasn't what I was hoping for.I started out with Ancestry, and used them extensively. Unfortunately, it is a reference and really doesn't try to be more. I was hoping this would actually live up to the title and talk about the best ways to use the software and get into the details of why you might choose to do things certain ways. I will test and report on this new feature in a future update.

Interestingly, RM claims it can import a bigger variety of Family Tree Maker files than any single version of Family Tree Maker itself. It is essentially a manual for the software so charging extra for it seems wrong, especially when essentially all the information it contains is available in the help files. As of version 7.1, RootsMagic can now directly import any Family Tree Maker file. Unfortunately, it is a reference and really do First, this is a PDF that should be included with RootsMagic.

RootsMagic was developed to work on Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 10 and can function on 32-bit systems. The program can also be called 'RootsMagic Demo', 'RootsMagic UK Edition', 'RootsMagic FHC Edition'.
